Annual Bird Banding at Fort Morgan
“Since 2019, BCA (Banding Coalition of the Americas) operates a fall public bird banding session for 8-9 days every year!
As former trainees of Bob and Martha Sargent, who operated the site for nearly 30 years through the Hummer/Bird Study Group, our goal is to continue this important research and public outreach effort. Typically, the banding occurs during the first week in October. This year it is from Sat, Oct 3rd through Sat, October 10th.
Address: Fort Morgan State Historic Site, 110 Alabama State Highway 180, Gulf Shores, AL.
The banding will occur in the stables area of the fort (the first brick road on the right past the sea wall). The banding area will be well marked with a sign.
Time: 8:00am- 3:00pm (Finishing at noon on the last day.)
Things to keep in mind when visiting the station:

Please follow the fort’s direction for parking.
Remember bug spray, sunscreen, water/snacks, and chairs (if you plan to stay for an extended amount of time). Closed toe shoes are recommended.
Portable toilets will be available at the banding site.
