SUMMARY:Annual Bird Banding at Fort Morgan
DESCRIPTION:“Since 2019\, BCA (Banding Coalition of the Americas) operates a fall public bird banding session for 8-9 days every year! \nAs former trainees of Bob and Martha Sargent\, who operated the site for nearly 30 years through the Hummer/Bird Study Group\, our goal is to continue this important research and public outreach effort. Typically\, the banding occurs during the first week in October.  This year it is from Sat\, Oct 3rd through Sat\, October 10th. \nAddress: Fort Morgan State Historic Site\, 110 Alabama State Highway 180\, Gulf Shores\, AL.  \nThe banding will occur in the stables area of the fort (the first brick road on the right past the sea wall). The banding area will be well marked with a sign. \nTime: 8:00am- 3:00pm (Finishing at noon on the last day.) \nThings to keep in mind when visiting the station:  \n​While our event is free\, the fort does charge an entrance fee: https://ahc.alabama.gov/properties/ftmorgan/ftmorgan.aspx \nPlease follow the fort’s direction for parking. \nRemember bug spray\, sunscreen\, water/snacks\, and chairs (if you plan to stay for an extended amount of time). Closed toe shoes are recommended.  \nPortable toilets will be available at the banding site. \nIf you have a disability and are concerned about access\, please reach out to us in advanced so we can arrange your visit.
